Port Harcourt Blast

The social media, and Nigeria in general, went haywire with rumors of a bomb explosion somewhere in Rumuokoro, Port-Harcourt, earlier in the morning.

It was later confirmed by the Governor of the state, Rotimi Amechi, who went live on Cool Fm, Port-Harcourt. He however dispelled the rumors about it being a Boko-Haram suicide bomber explosion, but rather the explosion happened when some dynamite being transported by unknown robbers in a commercial bus, exploded, leaving the driver of the bus dead, and others wounded. The robbers were said to have been on the way to a robbery operation.

Did I hear you say 'good for them'? Oh well.

Donna Summer Dies at 63

LaDonna Adrian Gaines, widely known by the stage name  'Donna Summer', the Queen of disco, finally gives up the struggle with cancer. The five time Grammy award winner, and the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the US Billboard chart died this morning, (May 17, 2012), in her home in Key West Florida. She was born on December 31 (New Year's eve) in Boston Massachusetts.

She began her singing in the church, went on to become a disco singer, and ironically, ended back in the church. She eventually became a born-again Christian sometime in the mid 1980's around when she was cited by some media prints as making anti-gay remarks concerning AIDS.

Goodnight Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco.

Best Friends Forever?

It was my ex's birthday today. I will give her a call, I promised myself. Hey, hold up! Get your mind out of the drain! I'm talking about my ex-bestie, not ex-boyfriend, and ex is an ex, isn't it? lol. I don't want no 14 years ( if you didn't get the joke, you'll probably get it next year :p)

Anyhow, I made the call, after getting her phone number off Facebook, and I waited for the tone. I said all the happy birthday things, prayers and all, and she was like aww, thanks and all throughout the conversation. Call duration is about 1 minute and as I proceed to end the call, she says "errmmm... sorry but I don't know who I'm speaking with" Wooohaa! She didn't know it was me?! What the heck? She couldn't pick out my voice?! Unbelievable, we used to be besties, you know BFF without the last F, and....... well, I hung up!  I later send a text message with my name in it. She calls back all apologetic and all, but I just waved it aside, no big deal I say. Yeah right, it was a big fat DEAL! It really was.

We spoke some, and all through the conversation, I just wondered, can we ever be friends again? I don't think so. But, time will tell.

Work on Yourself

Today opened my eyes to the fact that I've got to sit back and evaluate myself. I've got to work on my weaknesses, and step up my strengths.

Little Things That Count

Yesterday at a youth event in my church, someone made reference to the fact that many times, we look at people from the exterior and what we see are happy go lucky guys who we actually envy and wish we were in their shoes, when in actual fact, what's shown on the outside in in direct contrast with what's going on in their insides,

I'm Back!

Yes, and it's safe to say so. It's been a long time, way too long, away from here. I've been everywhere, but here. Forgive me for forsaking this page, okay? Thank you :). In the time that I've been away, so much has happened to me, and to the world. Yes, and so much has happened to my country, Nigeria.

Let me start with Nigeria; There was the fuel subsidy removal, which caused an uproar of unprecedented proportions. It birthed mass protests, the largest of any kind ever held here. People were passionate! It was a time to remember forever, for the first time in our history, people took to the streets in multitudes, and refused to be deterred by uniform wearing, and gun wielding officers. And yes, our voices were heard, and our protests yielded some dividends.

That was the good. Then there has been the bad- the incessant bombings from the self-acclaimed Boko Haram sect. For the first time in our history, as well, we have suddenly become a 'terrorist state'. Did I get that right? We are being bombarded on a weekly basis, with bombs, from this sect. Lives have been and are being lost on a weekly basis, and our government seems incapable of finding a solution to this problem. The Northern parts of the country have become a playground for bomb tossing individuals, it's crazy. People living in fright, going to work not certain they're going to be back. I just want to rest this topic for another post.

Well, there has been a whole lot more but I really want to talk about it all some other time, maybe, if ever. But one thing I'm going to say now, is I've missed this place, and I've missed you guys- Yeah ;)

On the missing note, I'll be here again, sooner than you think. I need to go get some medication for this feverish condition.

Peace people.
